Appearing in Police Supply catalogs in the 1930's, the STAR Police Club is a short rubber baton meant as a durable and "more humane" alternative to wood billie clubs of the early 20th century. The design is simple, 10" long, with ribs that circle the handle for grip, A round pommel at the butt end prevents slipping out of the hand, and the business end tapers out to match the diameter of the butt. A swivel attachment on the butt holds a leather retention strap. Of interest is the fact that the Star baton could be adorned with the distributor or retailer information right on the side opposite of the Star labeling. My Sar baton says SPORTS INC CHICAGO ILL and there is at least one other example that is labeled FRED BIFFAR & CO CHICAGO.
